Bizarre Bedtime

Normally when I put Vega to bed it's a long process of convincing her it's time for bed, putting her back in bed when she get's up, etc. Last night it went a little different. She was playing with me in the living room, when all of a sudden...

Vega: Oh no!
Daddy: What's wrong?
Vega: I have to go to bed, I'm really tired!

Vega then turned around and ran out of the room and up the stairs.

Vega: Come on Daddy, I want to go to bed.

The entire time while I was getting her ready for bed she was really cooperative and talked a ton.

Vega: I like to play chase
Daddy: Who do you like to play chase with
Vega: My brother, you, my mommy
Daddy: Who else?
Vega: Umm
Daddy: What about Niall?
Vega: Umm, no, he's too busy.
Daddy: Doing what?
Vega: He's busy playing with his toys right now.

Vega: When I grow up I can have grown up drinks
Daddy: What kind of grown up drinks.
Vega: Umm, beer, umm, and coffee
Daddy: What else?
Vega: More beer.

Vega: I'm gonna grow up big and tall and I can't fit in my own bed anymore and I'll be sad.
Vega: Look at my bed. It's very beautiful. It's really cool. Do you like it?
Vega: We went to Texas to see my grandmommy. She is very nice. I love her.

After talking talking talking the whole time we got ready for bed, she jumped into bed and yelled...

Vega: NIGHT NIGHT DADDY. I'M GOING TO SLEEP NOW!

And did...

Snow Day in Seattle

I was working in my office downstairs because it was a snow day. I was wearing my headphone and listening to music. Vega walked in...

Vega: "Hi Daddy, can I listen to your headphones please?"
Daddy: "Sure, hear you go", I turned down the volume, selected some music she would like and give them to her

Vega puts on headphones and starts dancing

... a minute passes ...

Vega takes the headphones off
Vega: "Here you go daddy. I can't dance right now, I'm too busy. I have things to do"
Vega leaves room

Later, while putting Vega to bed, again...

Daddy: "Why are you crying?"
Vega: "Because I can't sleep Daddy"
Daddy: "Do you want to sleep or do you want to stay up and cry?"
Vega: "I want to stay up and cry"
Daddy: "Ok"
Vega looks very very confused and stops crying

A trip to the Blueberry Farm

Today we planned to go to one of the many U-pick strawberry places around Seattle. I had been talking about this with Vega since yesterday so we definitely didn't want to miss this. Unfortunately we wasted too much time doing stuff at home after her nap and we ended up getting out of the house too late to get to the u-pick places.

So instead we decided to go to the blueberry farm in Bellevue. This places is just across Lake Washington from Seattle so it's really easy to get to. The problem is that blueberries don't ripen for another couple of weeks. There is a produce stand there though that does sell all kinds of berries from farms around the area. Vega was thrilled. She got to 'pick' strawberries, raspberries & rhubarb.

Then we went on a walk around the marshes & blue berry farms of the Mercer Slough. Vega went into full-on Explorer mode, saying "Ok guys, let's go. First, grumpy troll bridge..." The funny thing is this trail has tons of little bridges over irrigation ditches and marshy areas. So at every single bridge she would stop and pretend to be the grumpy troll, saying "you can't cross my bridge" until Athena and I did something, like count to 5, or dance or jump up and down or make a silly face. One time Athena counted but I didn't and Vega "Ok mommy, you can cross my bridge. You still have to count daddy".

Sevilla

Today (oct 15) while trying to get vega to go to sleep in her crib,
she was doing everything she could to stay awake. I sang a song to
her, but she just stood back up and said "daddy" and smiled that
smile. I smiled at which point she said "nose" and pointed at my nose
then "ear" and pointed at my ear, then "dumb dumb" and pointed at my
forehead and started laughing. I couldn't help but laugh my ass off.

Two nights ago we took her to see a flamenco show. I was very worried
about keeping her up for the show because it started at 7:30p, her
normal bedtime. It turned out to be fantastic. The show would have
been good without her there but she was so into the show that it made
the whole thing much more fun. The first half of the show she sat
there mesmerized and clapped silently like she had castinets. Towards
the middle of the show she started getting really into it, dancing
around in our laps, waving her arms in the air and yelling YAY! when
each dancer finished. At the very end of it, during the big finale she
got off my lap and started spinning around on the floor, lifing up her
dress, waving her arms in the air and clapping her hands. At one point
she yelled Yay so loud two of the dancers laughed. They were all
waving to her at the end of the show. The entire walk back to our room
she sang and danced and then collapsed in a fit outside a pastisceria.

In england one day we went walking through the town of Ely. She saw
some horses grazing in a nearby field and darted off. By the time
anyone noticed she was halfway to the fence yelling "horsey horsey
horsey". The fence slowed her down enough for mom to catch her.

Also today (oct 15) we came across a plaza while trying to get her
some food. This plaza was filled with children playing with tricycles,
bicycles, trucks, skates, balls, etc. She saw this and pratically
jumped out of the stroller and went jumping and running into the
crowd. She tried to eat pidgeon food, she ran screaming into a flock
of 20+ pidgeons and nearly kicked one. She tried to steal bicycles,
balls and strollers. She ran around the whole time screaming like a
maniac. Unfortunately it was getting really late already and she
needed to go to bed, so we had to pull her away which literally caused
her to explode.

Also today we took her on a ride in a horse and buggy. She spent most
of the ride trying to climb into the driver's seat yelling "horsey
horsey" but by the end she had fallen asleep.

Three flights so far and during every single on of them she would not
sleep until the last five minutes. 4 hours to Chicago. 8 hours to
London. 2.5 hours to Sevilla. No sleep until just before landing. The
problem is she won't sleep unless the lights are off, which they only
do immediately prior to landing.
